History

The Newfoundland Schutzhund Club Inc. was incorporated under the laws of Newfoundland and Labrador as a not-for-profit legal entity in January 2003.

Mission

  1. To promote and improve the breeding of purebred German Shepherd Dogs.
  2. To promote and improve the Sport of Schutzhund.
  3. To advance by all legitimate means, the interest and public image of the German Shepherd Dog breed and the Sport of Schutzhund.
  4. Conduct Schutzhund Trials, Tracking and Endurance Tests, and Conformation Shows sanctioned by the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada "GSSCC".
  5. Publish literature in the interest of the German Shepherd Dog and the Sport of Schutzhund.
  6. Encourage and assist members and respective sponsorship of Schutzhund Trials, Tracking and Endurance Tests, and Conformation Shows, and any other worthy function that benefits the Club, the German Shepherd Dogs and the Sport of Schutzhund.
  7. Assist breeders, owners and the general public in furthering their knowledge and appreciation of the breed through education programs.
  8. Encourage members and breeders to accept that standard of the breed as approved by the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada as the only standard of excellence by which the German Shepherd Dog shall be judged.
  9. Follow the Code of Ethics of the NSC Inc.

Aims and Objectives

  1. The Club is dedicated to improving the breed, fostering interest in obedience, conformation, and field aspects of the breed and also catering to the needs of the German Shepherd Dog handler.
  2. To promote and develop the interest of all handlers and persons showing interest in the German Shepherd Dog or the prime activities of the breed - Schutzhund Trials, Tracking and Endurance Tests, and Conformation Shows.
  3. Through positive public relations and educational programs, to encourage all handlers and persons interested in German Shepherd Dogs to become members of the NSC so that the highest standards possible will be updated and maintained to bring the natural qualities of the German Shepherd Dog to perfection.
  4. To promote the interests of and uphold the by-laws of the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada "GSSCC".
  5. To ensure that the NSC will not be conducted or operated for profit and any operating surplus or remainder or residue from dues, donations, etc., to the Club shall not enure to the benefit of any one member or individual.
  6. To educate the general public and prospective German Shepherd Dog handlers about the purpose of the breed, sound-breeding programs, and care of the German Shepherd Dog.
  7. To ensure that all members of the NSC abide by the Code of Ethics as set by the GSSCC
  8. To ensure the objectives of the Club are being fulfilled every person upon membership, agrees to donate a minimum of four hours work at Club activities or, in lieu, be willing to serve on a Club Committee.
  9. To endeavor to build a resource library of books, video tapes and information for the benefit of all club members.

Code of Ethics

  1. Absolutely no mistreatment of canines on or off the field. Any mistreatment results in IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL FROM CLUB!
  2. Members should display sportsmanship to all handlers on the field, spectators, guests, and judges at all times.
  3. All techniques are for SPORT ONLY. Schutzhund training and theory are for field work only!

Rules of Conduct

  1. All training sessions are under the control/direction of the TRAINING DIRECTOR or CLUB PRESIDENT or designate.
  2. Order of training shall normally be:
    [ 1 ] Tracking [ 2 ] Obedience [ 3 ] Protection.
    Dogs must be crated at all times when not working in the field!
  3. ABSOLUTELY no exposure to Protection work for applicants or non-members! [unless under the authorization of a sanctioned club activity]
  4. All Canines/Handlers are to arrive in time to "prepare" for the field and are to clean up after their dogs.
  5. No female canines ‘in season' allowed at training sessions!
  6. Keep training venues clean and respect the properties we use.
  7. Conduct of Handlers, language/etc. will be appropriate!
  8. Dogs not enrolled in the club, are to be kept off the field during training sessions!
  9. Members are to ensure their guest(s) do not interfere with the class training on the field.
  10. New methods, must be approved by the Training Director before being used on the field.
