Who is Raino Flügge?

Raino and his family (wife Angela and children Niki and Isis) moved to Canada from Hamburg Germany in June 2001. By profession Raino is a physiotherapist. Upon his arrival in Canada he forgave his career in the medical field for his two greater loves, the German Shepherd Dog and Schutzhund.

Raino has competed in 175 Schutzhund trials with 18 different dogs. As a professional handler Raino competed at the Regional and /or National trials 16 times with 8 different dogs.

Raino's involvement with the German Shepherd Dog began in 1974. He joined the SV in 1976 at the tender age of 15 as well as OG Winsen/Luhe (LG1) Schutzhund Club. He has been involved in Schutzhund at all levels and at all disciplines, a handler since 1974, a competitor from 1976, he has also served as a coach, a trainer, a judge, and last but not least as a mentor. Raino served over 20 years as training director and for 12 years as president of the OG Winsen/Luhe (LG1) Schutzhund Club.

In 1978 he became his club's helper, his skills as a helper gave him the opportunity to dedicate over 10 years to teaching helpers in his region in Germany. Since his move to Canada he continues to train helpers with his annual helper seminar. In 2003 he was one of the helpers at the Canadian National in Toronto.

Raino was accepted as a SV judge in 1994 and in 1997 became a judge trainer. He has presented schutzhund seminars in more than 10 countries over a 15 year period.

He was and continues to be very actively involved in the administration of Schutzhund Clubs, Raino served for 5 years as LG delegate member for the SV annual meetings and at present is serving on the Board of Directors of GSSCC as head judge. In 2004 Raino along with other members of the Fundy Regional Schutzhund Club brought the Canadian Nationals to Saint John, New Brunswick.

Raino breeds under the Kennel name vom Kiebitzende and his breeding program for working dogs has been successful. In 2004 three dogs from his kennel competed at the Canadian Nationals.

At present he still holds his membership in the SV and his original club in German, OG Windor/Luhe. He is a very active member of the Fundy Regional Schutzhund Club and the GSSCC. He is a SV, GSSCC judge as well as a certified trial helper.

In 2003 the title of Honorary Member was bestowed on Raino Fluegge by the Newfoundland Schutzhund Club.
